10 design tips
if design isn't really your thing.
If you don't have a design ready but have an idea in mind
We recommend using Canva. If you haven't used Canva before, think of it as a modern-day Paint. It's free, incredibly intuitive, and fun to use. You can put design ideas together in minutes, and they look cool and professional.
If you're lacking design inspiration
Have a scroll on Pinterest. It's the fastest way to unlock creative energy. The Canva Template section is also a goldmine for quick, polished ideas.
Always remove the background
Whether it's a logo, name, or icon, make sure there's no background on your design. Transparent PNGs are your friend here (Canva makes this easy with the 'background remover' tool on Pro).
Use the right file format
Vector files (SVG) give the cleanest finish. If using Canva, just export your Canva design as a high-res PNG, or SVG with no background. Simple and sharp.
Avoid tiny text and thin lines for embroidery
Embroidery doesn't love tiny details. Keep fonts bold and lines clean. The simpler the shapes, the better they stitch.
Stick to one or two colours
One or two colour designs almost always look more elevated. It keeps things clear, classic, and cost-effective (especially when printing on tees, totes or sweatshirts).
Avoid gradients and neon colours
Gradients and fluoro/neon shades don't translate well across print or embroidery. Stick to solid colours for a cleaner, more professional finish.
Don't crowd the edges
Leave a little space around your design. It helps it breathe and avoids issues when it comes to printing or stitching.
Use short, punchy wording
Less is more. "Coffee Addict", "Team Bride", or just your lovely logo will land way better than anything long or wordy.
If in doubt, keep it minimal
A simple phrase, a clean icon, or a location and date in a nice font often looks better than a complicated design. Trust us, if in doubt, minimal always feels more considered.
